Louie the Fly creator Bryce Courtenay to feature on Family Confidential
The man who created Mortein brand mascot Louie the Fly is to appear on ABC1’s Family Confidential tomorrow night.
Bryce Courtenay, an author and adman of 34 years who worked as a creative director at McCann Erickson, JWT and George Patterson Advertising (now GPY&R), created Louie the Fly in 1957 – it was the third commercial he had written.
Courtenay was also behind the Road Transport Authority’s slogan ‘Stop. Revive. Survive.’
The broadcast comes the week after the ‘Save him or kill him’ Louie the Fly campaign was cancelled early after consumers responded angrily to the closure of the plant that makes Mortein.
Family Confidential will air at 8pm tomorrow night.
i wonder if this was part of the supporting PR campaign?

Enough about Louie the Fly already… It was a total rip off of the “Bring back the Whisper candy bar” social media campaign executed in the UK three years ago.

Richard – it actually goes way further back than that. Harvester pubs in the UK did a “Bring back peas to the menu” in around 2002, and before that Heinz Salad cream was temporarily ‘threatened’ with being discontinued before being saved following huge public backlash blah blah blah
