Love Child gets second series on Nine

Nine has announced its new drama Love Child will get a second series after drawing more than a million viewers for its first two episodes.

The announcement:

After an impressive premiere with more than four million viewers, Nine’s new smash-hit drama Love Child will return for a second series.

Stars Jessica Marais (Joan Millar), Jonathan LaPaglia (Dr. Patrick McNaughton) and Mandy McElhinney (Matron Frances Bolton) will all be back in series two, which starts on New Year’s Eve 1970 – the dawn of a new decade.

Also returning for series two are Ella Scott Lynch (Shirley Ryan), Sophie Hensser (Viv Maguire), Gracie Gilbert (Annie Carmichael) Harriet Dyer (Patricia Saunders) and Miranda Tapsell (Martha Tenant).

In a joint statement, Nine’s Heads of Drama, Jo Rooney and Andy Ryan, said: “We are delighted with how Australian audiences have fallen in love with Love Child, and we are looking forward to working with Playmaker and this incredible cast in series two.”

David Taylor from Playmaker said “Dream cast, lots of heart and authored character-driven drama… everyone at Playmaker can’t wait to revisit the world of Love Child for a second series.”

Love Child is produced by Playmaker for the Nine Network. Pre-production on the new series will commence soon in Sydney.
