Maccas goes long form with Masterchef spoof
McDonald’s has moved into long form content with the creation of a spoof contest to be the fast food giant’s next top chef. Webisodes will run on the website of Masterchef, which returns to Ten tonight with the launch of the first run of Celebrity Masterchef.
The series of nine webisodes have been created by Fremantle Media, the owner and producer of the succesful show format, rather than the McDonald’s advertising agency DDB, with OMD Fuse behind the media deal.
Macca Chef is designed to promote the McDonald’s premium Angus Burger range.
The series is also a potential recruitment tool, said McDonald’s national sponsorship and media manager Toby Dewar. He said: “We hope it will show potential new trainees the fun side of our business.”

Ouch! Michael Chamberlin why are you doing a McDonalds ad? There were elements of this which were actually pretty well shot and not completely terrible but it’s really all overly long and at the end of the day it’s an Ad and I would like my two minutes back.

Oh no.. An ad that you clicked on after being told it was an ad.

And Andrew- maybe because he has to make some money like the rest of us. I adore comments like yours.

Actually, I think the spoof is pretty clever. Yes, it’s an ad, but if you realise it from the start , you should be able to get over it pretty quickly (I did!). It’s not going to make me buy Maccas anymore than their other ads, but I can see the artistic merit in it.

I found it entertaining, but I wonder what the point of it is? How does it move McDonald’s brand forward? And do McDonald’s really have French chefs?
