Mamamia appoints Clare Stephens as editor
Women’s lifestyle network Mamamia has promoted Clare Stephens from morning editor to editor as it prepares for executive editor Leigh Campbell to take maternity leave.
The announcement was made in a media release celebrating new content reach for the company, including a 30% increase in podcast listeners since January.
Co-founder and chief creative officer Mia Freedman said the talent in the editorial team was to thank for the strong results.
“Our bench strength of creative women across articles, video, podcasts, social and influencer management is deeper than it’s ever been, and it’s something Holly [Wainwright, head of content] and I are very proud of,” said Freedman.
“We take great pride in growing talent internally, and this is further highlighted by the fact that Clare Stephens has just been appointed editor of Mamamia – Clare started with us as an intern four years ago.”
Stephens has been on a steep trajectory since joining the company as an intern. She was editorial assistant for five months before moving to a site producer role for nine months. She then became weekend editor, a role she held for two years and seven months before her promotion to morning editor, which she held for six months.
Stephens is also one half of ‘The Twins’ who took over the role of recapping reality shows for Mamamia when Rosie Waterland left the business.
The company also celebrated new podcast The Quicky which landed in the Apple Podcast Top Five in its first week. The podcast is made in partnership with My Budget, with senior marketing manager Mal Chia saying the company was delighted by the audience reception.
“We have been thrilled by the response to The Quicky. Since it launched we have seen a significant increase in brand search volume and website traffic,” said Chia.
