Mamamia’s sales director to lead News Corp agency

News Australia has hired Marie Joyce to act as the general manager (GM) of its content marketing agency, Suddenly.

Joyce is being tasked with managing and promoting the agency’s overall growth and strategic direction, including facilitating content solutions for clients and overseeing client relationships.

Suddenly sits under News Corp’s commercial content brands, alongside video production company Visual Domain, and content marketing agencies Storyation and Medium Rare. Its clients include Westpac, Youi, Chemist Warehouse and The Good Guys.

Set to commence in October, Joyce will be based in Melbourne.

The appointment will see Joyce depart from her role as acting national sales director at Mamamia — a position she has held since July 2025. She joined the women-focused media organisation in 2021 as its head of audio sales for Victoria and South Australia.

Before her tenure at Mamamia, Joyce spent more than four and a half years at Nova Entertainment. First joining the business at the beginning of 2017 as a group sales manager, she stepped into the head of agency in April 2020 before leaving in July the following year.

Joyce has also worked as the business group director at Bauer Media and as a senior sales executive at ACP Magazines.

“I’m passionate about solving client problems through creativity, data-led insights and compelling storytelling,” Joyce said in a media release.

“Suddenly has a well-earned reputation for delivering content that deeply resonates with audiences and drives results. I’m excited to build on that success alongside such a talented team.”

Mike Connaghan, managing director for commercial content at News Corp Australia, said: “Suddenly has had an exceptional year building momentum in the market, with existing clients expanding their partnerships and new clients recognising the value and power of brand content.

“Marie is an outstanding leader and her vision and expertise will be instrumental in capitalising on this growing demand and taking Suddenly to the next level.”

In August, News Corp’s content marketing agency Medium Rare was nominated in 17 categories for this year’s Mumbrella Publish Awards.

Nicholas Gray, publisher and managing director of News Corp’s The Australian, is scheduled to appear at the 2025 Mumbrella Publish conference to discuss “the big strategic questions facing publishers in 2025”.
