Marc Fennell launches second podcast on Audible

Marc Fennell is launching his second podcast with Audible Australia, Nut Jobs.

The announcement:

Following the success of Marc Fennell’s first Audible Original, It Burns, his second Audible Original Podcast, Nut Jobs, is launching on Audible Australia on June 2nd.

It Burns, which revealed the story of the world’s competitive chilli eating scene has been nominated and shortlisted for a range of national and international awards, including:

  • Webby Award Honoree (Best Podcast 2020)
  • New York Festivals Radio Awards Winner (Silver Medal, Narrative/Documentary Podcast)
  • Rose d’Or Nominee (Best Audio Entertainment)
  • James Beard Foundation Broadcast Media Awards (Winner: Audio Program 2020)
  • Association of International Broadcasters Awards Nominee
  • Mumbrella Publish Awards – Nominee/Highly Commended (Best Podcast)

The quirky, soulful documentary about the scandal-plagued race to breed the world’s hottest chilli bolted to the top of the US Audible charts in 2019, bringing international acclaim to Marc’s storytelling on a global stage.

The follow up series, Nut Jobs, again looks into the deep underground food culture, following the story of the $10 million heist you’ve never heard of.

In six months, 20 trucks carrying $USD 10 million of product just… disappeared…? You might expect these trucks to be carrying iPhones, prescription drugs or designer clothes. But no. They contained nuts. Food and beverages are now the most-stolen goods in America — ahead of even pharmaceuticals and consumer electronics. And one of the hottest items on the US black market these days are nuts. To understand just what is happening, Marc Fennell travels to California, which grows 80% of the world’s almonds as well as virtually all of the pistachios and walnuts in America.

Marc says that the success of It Burns inspired him to again dig deep into a food subculture, and tell the story of the scandal that lies within it. “It Burns allowed me to reach a new global audience that I hadn’t had access to before. I was blown away to see how universal this story was, resonating not just with Australians but audiences in the UK and US as well,” says Marc.

“Nut Jobs follows a similar underlying vein to It Burns. Every episode makes the listener subtly question their food choices as they discover how something as seemingly innocuous as nuts can be tied up in the black market and questionable environmental practices. Lifting the lid on these heists has made me fundamentally re-think the faith we all put in our food and where it comes from.”

Nut Jobs is available now, only on Audible
