Rook was most recently commercial director at Australian Radio Network, a role he had been in since December 2017. He was made redundant in January this year when holding company HT&E restructured its management team. Prior to that, he has was commercial director at Daily Mail. He has also held roles across Nine and Seven.

Rook said he was excited to be taking on the role within a rapidly expanding company.

“I’m really excited to be joining The Guardian at a time where demand for quality news content and journalism is of great value not only to our readers but also our advertisers,” said Rook.

“The opportunity to lead the commercial team, work with the best talent and develop the way in which we take this incredible offering to market really appealed to me.”

Stinton said Rook had an important part to play in the ongoing success for Guardian Australia.

“Mason has an impressive track record leading strong teams to deliver meaningful revenue growth. His role will be critical to The Guardian Australia – one that ensures we are best placed to continue building upon the advertising success we have enjoyed over the last six years. I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Guardian Australia recently announced it was expanding its newsroom with eight new editorial hires. The announcement came after the publisher saw strong growth in the most recent Nielsen Digital Content Ratings, increasing its unique audience to 5.38m over the month of March.
