MasterCard has brought back fanatical All Blacks fan ‘Tim’ in a new campaign to launch the credit card’s PayPass contactless technology in New Zealand.

The first campaign starring ‘Tim’, a promotional spot called Check In, was voted among New Zealand’s best – and worst – ads in a Fair Go poll last October.

The latest 30-second TV ad, also created by McCann Australia, shows All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, Ali Williams and Ma’a Nonu  enjoying the benefit of speedy contactless payment as they rush to Tim’s wedding.

Like the original Tim spot, it is directed by Adam Stevens from Robbers Dog.

John Mescall, McCann Australia’s ECD said: “How do you follow up New Zealand’s favourite ad of 2012? Well, you dash the hopes of tens of thousands of Kiwi women everywhere by marrying-off the lovable little hero of the campaign: Tim. Sorry, ladies.”

The original ad featuring ‘Tim’ launched in July last year.

The latest campaign, which launches on 7 April, includes cinema, out-of-home, social and usage promotion, devised by MercerBell.

Behind the scenes content will be available on MasterCard NZ’s Facebook page, where there are prizes to be won.
