Masterchef helps Ten into second place for Monday night ratings

Ten’s Masterchef Australia was the highest rating non-news show on Monday with 873,000 metro viewers tuning in to watch the bottom three contestants from the previous night battle it out in an elimination round.

The show, which saw an increase on the previous night’s 718,000, helped Ten to a main channel share of 16.7% last night, ahead of Nine’s 15.7%, but trailing Seven’s 19.6%.

For Seven, House Rules pulled in 851,000 while Nine’s Hot Seat was the network’s best rating non-news show with 554,000, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

News though dominated the night with Seven’s News winning the evening with 1.122m metro viewers, edging out Nine News which had 1.013 million.

Nine’s A Current Affair with 787,000 viewers slightly beat the ABC 7pm news’ 763,000 audience with Four Corners attracting 613,000. Ten’s The Project also made the top twenty shows with 572,000 viewers for its second half hour.

With the multi-channels, Seven won the total network share for the evening with 27.6%, beating out Nine’s 25.0% and Ten’s 21.3%. The ABC network recorded 18.3% and SBS 7.9%.
