Masterchef warms up audiences with special ahead of series return on Monday

Ahead of Monday’s season return of Masterchef, last night Ten looked back on some of the previous seasons’ stars with its Masterchef Special: Ordinary People. Extraordinary Food which saw 453,000 metro viewers tune in at 7.30pm.

The special did manage to out-rate Seven’s Wedding Surprises: Caught on Camera which pulled in 439,000 in the same timeslot, according to overnight figures from OzTam.

Both shows were beaten by the NRL on Nine which had an audience of 457,000 across Sydney and Brisbane from 7.30pm.

News was the order of Thursday evening, with Nine News and Seven News at 6pm the only programs to break the 1m audience barrier with 1.017m metro viewers and 1.014m respectively.

Nine News at 6.30pm grabbed 998,000 while Seven News/Today Tonight at 6.30pm pulled in 984,000.

Nine News at 6.30pm was the most popular show amongst viewers aged 18-49 and 25-54.

Thanks to the news and the NRL, Nine won the night with an audience share of 22% ahead of Seven’s share of 18.3%. Ten claimed third place with a share of 11.2% while the ABC managed a share of 10.8% and SBS posted a share of 6.1%.

Nine’s A Current Affair at 7pm was watched by 817,000 while Seven’s Home and Away had a metro audience of 745,000. Ten’s The Project at 7pm saw 538,000 metro viewers tune in. Home and Away was the most-watched show amongst viewers aged 16-39.

At 8pm, the ABC’s The Checkout grabbed 517,000 metro viewers while Seven’s Thursday night movie Guardians of the Galaxy was watched by 455,000 from 8.30pm.
