Matildas’ phenomenal 4-0 win against Canada brings in the crowd for Seven

Last night’s FIFA Women’s World Cup match between Australia and Canada was a ratings hit for Seven, as 1.54 million metro viewers tuned in to watch the crucial game that kept the Matildas’ campaign alive.

The Matildas scored its second goal when there were less than 10 minutes to go for the first half. However, a VAR check has produced an offside ruling.

Minutes later, though, Hayley Raso produced another precious goal that sealed Australia’s 2-0 advantage in the first half. Australia progressed to the round of 16 after the game.

Close to one million (992,000) metro viewers stayed for the post-game on Seven. The match also topped all three key advertising demos.

Meanwhile, 754,000 tuned in for the lunch session of the Ashes day five on Nine.

Seven won the night.
