Mayday calls for sponsors

Media Assisting Youth (Mayday) is looking for media and advertising support to assist disadvantaged young people.

The announcement:

Media Assisting Youth (MAYDAY) is back for 2010, and is again rallying the media and advertising industry and advertisers to support its mission of helping disadvantaged and underprivilegedyoung people in the community.

Now in its fourth successful year, MAYDAY is seeking record numbers of media owners and advertisers to join the movement that represents the collective conscience of the industry.

MAYDAY founder Kerry McCabe said: “We are inspired by the early support from our loyal existing sponsors. This year we really want to grow the partner base and bring new media owners and advertisers on board to take the result to another level.”

This year we’ve selected six amazing organisations that support disadvantaged young people, and we ask that the industry will continue to embrace our cause – to help these groups improve the lives of young people in need.”

New in 2010, MAYDAY has incorporated a marketing mentoring program for all its not-for-profit partners – designed to help them build their brands and assure sustainability through developing their own innovative fundraising and sponsorship programs.

Over the past three years, MAYDAY has generated over $2 million in cash, and $1.5 million in

media and pro-bono support for youth focused not-for-profit organisations. To date, over $700,000 in advertising packages have been donated for 2010 by Australia’s leading media brands.

The target in 2010 is for MAYDAY to exceed last year’s result of $900,000, which will be distributedacross the following six organisations:

• Oasis Youth Support Services – Giving homeless and disadvantaged young people hope, help and opportunities to access relevant education, training, jobs, counselling, and drug/alcohol programs.

• KidsXpress – An expressive therapy program aimed at empowering children by encouraging self expression through the use of music, art, dance and drama therapies.

• Rare Earth Foundation – Support and deliver cultural development programs for young people to preserve and promote Indigenous culture through media, technology and the arts.

• South Sydney Youth Services – Providing a range of counselling and mental health services, and education and training programs to young people and their families.

• Fighting Chance – Supporting young people with disabilities, and their families in therapy, post-school employment opportunities, and accommodation.

• Carevan Foundation – Mobile food services for displaced and homeless youth in rural NSW.

The annual MAYDAY event will be held at Merivale’s Hemmesphere in Sydney on August 18. A great night of entertainment is planned and winning bidders will be announced on the night. An impressive line up of international and local talent will be revealed in the coming weeks.
