MBThree appoints Tom Johnson as digital director

Media communications agency MBThree, part of Mediabrands Australia has appointed Tom Johnson as digital director. Johnson comes across from OMD Melbourne where he was also digital director.

The announcement:

MBThree, the media communications agency that is
part of Mediabrands Australia, has appointed Tom Johnson as digital
director. He joins the agency effective immediately and will be based
in the MBThree Melbourne office.

Launched in September 2011, MBThree principally focuses on
Mediabrands’ expanding Coles portfolio and since then the agency has
also taken on projects for marketers alongside its work with Coles.

“Tom Johnson’s track record in implementing highly effective digital
communications and teamwork is first class,” said MBThree managing
director Peter Butler. “He will accelerate MBThree’s impact in this
area as we look increasingly to mobile, social media and greater use
of data and analytics to engage with consumers.”

Johnson is previously digital director of OMD Melbourne and headed a
team of 10 people. Before that he worked at The White Agency mostly on
Telstra and he is also experienced in digital sales. His client
experience includes work in retail, automotive, entertainment,
telecommunications, energy, fmcg, banking and insurance.

Johnson said his new appointment was a big opportunity. “Coles is one
of Australia’s most innovative marketers. To help lead Coles’ digital
communications strategy and implementation is a truly great
opportunity,” said Johnson.

He replaces MBThree’e previous digital director Michael Ashton, who
has transferred within UM to Hong Kong where he will focus on the
global Cathay Pacific account.
