M&C Saatchi do their bit for flood relief
M&C Saatchi have raised $18,000 for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.
The announcement:
Sydney 27 January 2011 – M&C Saatchi raised $18,000 for flood relief from a party it held on its rooftop on Tuesday night.
Agency staff “got their Aussie” on for the Australia Day eve fundraiser that featured an Aussie BBQ, ANZAC biscuits, green and gold deserts and drinks, all supplied by M&C Saatchi for a gold coin donation.
Staff rallied around to pull together an amazing swag of prizes that included music festival tickets, dinner vouchers, music, hotel stays, an Xbox 360, a Play Station 3, beauty therapy, magazine subscriptions, a signed Wallabies jersey, Aussie cricket bat etc, etc for the auctions, silent auctions, tombolas and various raffles held during the night.
A highlight of the soiree was senior account manager Andrew Henderson being auctioned off. M&C Saatchi Australia managing director David Whittle was the highest bidder, paying $350 for a week of Hendo at his beck and call.
Make executive producer Jacqui Ford was the top bidder with $220 for M&C Saatchi’s resident people mover Tibor Misic to drive her to work every day for a week.
As well as the big night, the team in the M&C Saatchi Sydney café whipped up batches of ‘Save Aussie’ burgers and cheese toasties for staff throughout the day, with all proceeds going to The Premier’s Flood Relief.
Mr Whittle said the enthusiasm from staff and clients to get behind the event and the cause was inspiring.
“We’ve all watched the death and destruction caused by the floods in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania and have all wanted to reach out and help.
“What better way to do this than to come together on the eve of our nation’s birthday to lend that hand.”
M&C Saatchi would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous prize donations: Qantas, Westfield, Steggles, EMI, Universal Music, Shorties Liquor, David Jones, Hugo’s Bar, Pizza Hut, Lloyd Lomas Hairdressers, Garden Brasserie, AdNews, Australian Creative Magazine, B&T Magazine, Original Bootcamp Australia Pty Ltd, Playground Weekender, Maude Toohey Make Up, Shona Joy, Edge Studio, Hair & Beauty, Blow-dry Boutique, Azzolini, House of Iluka, Corner House, Bondi Pizza, Event Cinemas, DUGG, Infinity Bakery, Tivoli Restaurant, Sydney FC, and Pepsi.

Is it just me or does anyone else find M&C creating a press release about this in poor taste?

It could be taken the wrong way I suppose but likewise it’s a rallying cry to other companies to do the same/similar thing. I thought it was tastefully done.

This is why the idea of a levy pisses me off – no mention of the floods in bloody Carnarvon, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, was there? Sheez…
