M&C Saatchi MD Russell Hopson replaced by Sian Cook and Michael McEwan

M&C Saatchi Australia group managing director Russell Hopson has departed the business after four years.

Hopson has served in the role since 2017, and it has been revealed he will be replaced by Sian Cook and Michael McEwan, who’ll serve as joint managing directors.

Cook steps up from her current role as M&C Saatchi Sydney managing partner, while McEwan was the managing director for the Melbourne hub of the business.

Mumbrella understands that Hopson is taking some time off before considering his next career move.

CEO Justin Graham revealed that Hopson decided recently to leave the business, and thanked him for his service and commitment over the past four years.

“Russell is a passionate leader with strong relationships both internally and externally. We thank him for his commitment and contribution to the business over the last four years.”

Graham said Cook and McEwan will now work in partnership for the managing director role, “to realise the ambitions of our product and further enhance our client experience.

Cook has been with the business since 2016, and brings two decades of experience including 14 years at BBH London.

McEwan joined M&C Saatchi in 2019, having spent most of their career at Clemenger BBDO and Ogilvy. He’ll now divide more of his time between Sydney and Melbourne in the new role.

Graham added: “Sian and Michael are already an integral part of our business, partnered because of a shared ambition to drive creativity across all parts of our business, and a consistent focus on helping our partners achieve incredible growth.

“Together with Cam (Blackley) and Emily (Taylor), there is no more complementary partnership to lead M&C Saatchi in this next phase of change.”

M&C Saatchi appointed Chris Cheeseman as its creative director for Sydney late last year, and has won accounts for Origin Energy (creative) and My Muscle Chef (PR) since the start of 2021.
