Former McCann Melbourne group account director Adrian Mills is set to return to the agency to take on the managing director role following a six month stint with Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, Mumbrella can reveal.

Mills joined Clemenger as a group account director in February this year after more than two years with McCann where he had been part of the team on the award-winning ‘Dumb Ways To Die’ campaign.

Ben Lilley, national chairman and CEO of McCann Worldgroup, told Mumbrella: “Adrian is the world’s most creative suit right now and we are delighted to be able to welcome him back to McCann.

There’s one name almost as closely associated with our Melbourne creative and effectiveness award success over the past two years as Pat Baron and John Mescall’s – and that’s Adrian Mills. He has a unique intuition for identifying and driving game-changing work that delivers outstanding results for our clients.”

The Melbourne office of the agency has been without a managing director for two years with Lilley largely overseeing the operation of the office while also attending to his national chairman and CEO duties.

“We’ve been without a Melbourne managing director for almost two years now. But on the back of both our significant Melbourne new business wins over the past 12 months plus significant new business interest as a result of our ongoing awards success, the Melbourne office needs a managing director,” said Lilley.

Mills’ appointment follows Pat Baron being named as Melbourne ECD and national ECD John Mescall’s elevation as global ECD.

On Mills’ appointment, Baron said: “I couldn’t be more excited to have Adrian returning to McCann. He’s one of the most talented and inspiring suits I’ve seen and is a key contributor to our creative work and process.

“Adrian’s role in helping inspire and lead some of the most game-changing work out of this office is well known. This included our back-to-back Cannes Lion Grand Prix winning Dumb Ways to Die and V/Line Guilt Trips campaigns, as well as every other Lion winning campaign for the past two years and other highly awarded work.”
Mills’ name appears on the credits list for a number of McCann campaigns including Tigerair ‘Infrequent Flyers’, The Impossible Orchestra, V/Line’s ‘Guilt Trip’ campaign and Dumb Ways to Die.

Prior to this first stint with McCann, Mills spent five years with George Pattern Y&R as an account director.

He starts with McCann on Monday.
