McDonald’s Australia Day promo encourages diners to wear beetroot stain ‘with pride’
McDonald’s has kicked off its Australia Day campaign with the return of the McOz burger, promoting the burger’s slice of beetroot and the consequential purple juice drip with the tagline “Eat it with passion, wear it with pride”.
Last year the restaurant celebrated Australia Day by renaming a handful of its restaurant “Maccas”, a campaign which won several awards for creative agency DDB and media agency OMD.

More soon.
I’m on the edge of my seat for “more soon” on McDonalds beetroot ad.

The ad has one flaw – its all men. The only female to feature in the ad has the direction of wiping off the beetroot stain (thus not supporting the “pride” of the McOz, and “passion” of being Australian).
Confused as to why this decision would be made.

I find this ad incredibly sexist. Only men eat burgers, and women are here to clean up after them. Women like beetroot too!

Why only men? Creative angle but disappointing to see the gender imbalance. Is that what we’re celebrating this Oz day?

My first thought was that it looks like a blood stain, and my second was that it was inexplicably all men…

Where are all the women? Or where is at least ONE woman? C’mon Maccas.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this yet, but it appears to be all men in this ad… other than the woman cleaning up after the man (which makes sense)..

Maybe they are targeting men?

I assume that, based on research, their target audience was males hence using male talent for the ad.

I was watching the hefty ad earlier too and thought why are they only using men? Where are the hot women? It’s an outrage

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but this ad only features men.

All male, all white. Bland Straya.

Grow a pair and stop using the anal periscope. Men are slobs, women clean up after them. How hard can it be.

All men but no Souther Cross tattoos? soft.

But when we show red stains on a woman’s chest, the grumbling Greers will accuse the sexist client/agency of being obsessed with a woman’s breasts.
Just can’t win.
I got it!
Red stain on lap of a skirt- what complains would that possibly attract?

that is perhaps the whitest ad I’ve ever seen

Very bland ad. All white. All male. Looks like it was made 50 years ago.

Poorly shot and directed woman pulls back before man puts hand up. Crap ad. Infuriates me.

Beetroot is a plague upon the face of the earth and when I’m in charge, mere possession will bring 12 months hard labour without the option.

Perhaps they should have slung beetroot at Brangelina’s troupe. Would that be multicultural enough? Not one average punter brainlessly staring at the creative abyss that is Australian TV will see this ad and make a mental note that it is all white males and therefore not a true representation of multicultural Australia.
Not one.
Put your pitchforks down.

Why the fuck would anyone want to wear a beetroot stain on their shirt with pride? Another dumb arse Australian ad.

This is a disrespectful, tacky ‘take off’ of an Anzac or Remembrance day public service announcement. The stain looks like blood, right? ‘Wear it with pride’ – like a Remembrance day poppy, right? But what we’re talking about here is an American company selling junk food. They should be ashamed IMHO.

I find this commercial sexist, racist, only males are sloppy eaters???? Excuse me, women can spill food onto their clothes, too. Another thing, only males can be patriotic? I am going to make a point and go to Micky D’s, wearing a white blouse, all clean, starched and ironed just so I can get some beetroot stains on it. Maybe I try eating the burger without hands because they are holding Australian flags.

A little ironic as I don’t think Australia produces canned or bottled beet root anymore…

Well, everyone has mentioned the odd, all male no female. But what about everyone being white and the old grandpa acting like James Cook at the end of the ad.
Oh and the blood stain stands for patriotism?
Most of us don’t realise we leave in a multicultural country and sometimes need to respect the real owners too!!!
The most racist ad ever in this country yet.
