GroupM media agency MEC is to restructure its Adelaide operations with veteran agency boss Peter Bucklow to step back into a non-executive chairman’s role.

Under the restructure, Ten Adelaide general sales manager Royce Zygarlicki will join the agency and replace Bucklow in the role of MEC Adelaide managing director.

“This will ensure a smooth transition,” MEC CEO Peter Vogel told Mumbrella, “In this role Peter will ensure the smooth running of the business under its new management structure. Peter has done an outstanding job of growing MEC in Adelaide.

“I am pleased that he will continue to provide support and guidance to the agency as it moves into the future.”

Adelaide is home to some of the media agency’s biggest accounts with the MEC holding the media buying for both Mitsubishi and South Australian government, with collectively around $80m plus in billings.

On the appointment of Zygarlicki the MEC CEO said: “Royce has a history of generating new ideas and providing long term direction and vision along with the professional development of his staff. He will play an important role in continuing to grow our business and services in the Adelaide market.”

Matt Hofmeyer has also been promoted to General Manager of MEC Adelaide, following his work on SA Government media team at MEC which the agency retained earlier this year, taking over the ‘functional’ parts of the media buying from Starcom, as well.

“Matt has been with MEC for ten years and has worked on many of our agency’s largest clients. This is great recognition of the value that he has added to our agency,” said Peter Bucklow in a statement.

Bucklow has been with MEC since 1998 and was prior to that media director at Young Rubicam.

“We have a very talented team at MEC in Adelaide, and I am really excited and confident about our future growth prospects in South Australia under our new leadership structure,” Vogel added.
