Singapore-based boutique media agency The Media Shop, which announced it was opening an Australian operation in March, has appointed a business manager for its Sydney office.

The launch is believed to be the first time an independent media agency from Singapore has opened an office in Australia.

Former Fairfax and Sapient Nitro executive Tim Stanford has been hired to run The Media Shop Australia, with CA Technologies among the founding clients.

He joins from iPhone shopping app brand Scan2List, where he was head of business development for the last three years.

“More companies are focusing their resources on digital marketing and Tim’s strengths in this area are an asset for us as we plan our expansion into Oceania,” said Jessica Toh, the agency’s regional business director, to whom Stanford will report.

Stanford said: “The Media Shop has proven their worth as an independent agency with a track record of regional campaigns run for blue chip companies – and clients are sitting up and noticing. I’m thrilled to join them at such an exciting juncture.”

Meanwhile the company says that its planned Indonesia launch is likely to take place after the dust has settled post elections.

“We’re still looking for the right person to lead the agency in Indonesia,” Toh told Mumbrella Asia. “We’re most likely to open in this market at the end of this year or the start of the next.”

The Media Shop, which started out in 2009, also has offices in Taiwan.
