Media watchdog brings rules for protecting live radio show guests in line with reality TV

The media watchdog has launched a code of practice for commercial radio networks to protect people who feature on live radio broadcasts.

The code, which was developed by Commercial Radio Australia, comes two years after an incident on2Day FM’s Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show, when a 14-year old girl revealed that she had been raped live on air during the show’s lie detector segment.

The new rules feature on CMA’s website.

According to press release from regulatory body ACMA, the rules are in line with those for people who appear on reality TV shows.

The code will be monitored between now and 2013, and reviewed if its proves ineffective.
