Mediaweek makes editor-in-chief redundant
Mediaweek Australia has made Emma Shepherd, its editor-in-chief, redundant, “as part of recent changes.”
Shepherd took to Linkedin to reveal her redundancy, writing: “This decision was completely out of my hands”, and calling it “incredibly difficult to step away from a role I truly loved.”
She added: “It’s been an absolute joy to lead a brand I care so deeply about, and to work alongside some of the most talented, passionate, and brilliant people in the industry.”
Vinyl Group bought the media publication in September 2024, for $500,000 in cash and $500,000 in shares.
The takeover came after Mediaweek’s managing director and publisher Trent Thomas stepped away in July, 2024, following media reports of alleged sexual harassment against female staff members.
Shepherd was hired as Mediaweek’s editor-in-chief in October, along with Frances Sheen, who joined the publication as head of content. The same month, Kellie Brown, Mediaweek’s director of digital, marketing and strategic partnerships left the company.
Vinyl Group then sacked Mediaweek’s former editor-in-chief James Manning in November, who had been with the publication for 25 years.
