Medium Rare’s Storyation appoints Andrés López-Varela as GM
Storyation has announced the promotion of Andrés López-Varela the new general manager – strategy and operations for the content marketing agency.
López-Varela has been part of the agency for the past three years, serving as head of strategy, and previously worked as global content editor at Tourism Australia. He also held roles at Weber Shandwick and One Green Bean.
The agency was acquired by News Corp-owned Medium Rare in late 2019, with the latter recently adding Nick Smith as group content director.
Storyation managing director Lauren Quaintance said López-Varela’s promotion reflected both his work and the continued growth of the agency.
“We’re seeing more and more demand from clients for content marketing that is grounded in the kind of data-driven strategy that Andrés specialises in,” she said.
“He has been a highly valued member of our team and is exactly the right person to ensure we have the processes and systems to support our next stage of growth and that we deliver the tangible business results that our clients demand.”
López-Varela added: “I’m grateful to have worked with the Storyation team for over five years, firstly during my time at Tourism Australia and then as head of strategy within the agency,” López Varela said.
“All the while, I’ve seen Mimi and Lauren’s skill, vision and commitment build one of the world’s best content agencies.
“I’m honoured they’ve chosen me for this leadership role to help develop even more exceptional work for our clients and continue to build an expert, supportive, tight-knit team.”
Storyation was founded by Lauren Quaintance and Mimi Cullen in 2013, with all staff staying on following its purchase by Medium Rare.
The pair have remained as joint managing directors, and Storyation’s clients include Beyond Blue, Microsoft and NRMA.
