Melbourne Entrepreneurs push new iPhone invention
Rob Ward and Chris Peters, Melbourne Entrepreneurs who invented an iPhone 4 case that doubles as a bottle opener, are marketing their latest invention – an iPhone mount that attaches to prams, bicycles, windscreens and shopping trolleys.
Six months after the release of the Opena Case, the duo used crowd funding – where the development of a new product is paid for by punters through a website called Kickstarter – to get the Quad Lock off the ground. The necessary funds were raised in two weeks.
The pair are using social media, PR – through Rebecca Appleton PR – and technology bloggers to market the Quad Lock, which is currently being promoted at CES and Mac World in the US.
The profile of the Opena Case was boosted when Ashton Kutcher tweeted about it.

A bicycle iPhone mount. What a break through. Cell Bikes at Stanmore have been selling ’em for 10 bucks for ages.

Lucas – you fool. You obviously missed the whole point of the case, it’s so you can USE it whilst being held, not just hold it for you. At this point, I’m surprized you can use a computer well enough to make that pointless statement.
To everyone else (with opposable digits to use an iphone), coming from a product (& graphic) designer, this is an awesome product with obviously well thought out applications, rather than just a windscreen mount. Two thumbs up, and all the best for the product!

using your iphone while road cycling (pedal or motor) is a recipe for disaster

Ryan – you legend. I have hands.

@ryan are you kidding? The only interest here is how they promoted and raised cash for it which is good and nimble. To use your rather limited ‘thumb ranking’ I’d give it a partially amputated 1.1 thumbs, not the 100% two thumbs up decries. Unless as a designer that was a sycophantic job application?

Lucas – you funny. Two hands whilst riding a bike? driving a car? hmm, ok.
Dr Octogon – I agree, that there is massive interest in ‘how they promoted and raised cash for it’, that was not in question. But, there would be/should be no interest in how they did it if the actual product was shit, it would all be for nought, no-one would link and re-link these stories and create the hype it needs to work. What I was doing was just putting my 2 cents worth in to say I thought the actual product itself was a good idea and therefore ‘deserved’ to have the media hype and funding it needs to work.
What exactly is it about the product that reduces your rating from 2 to 1.1 thumbs? You didn’t mention anything specific that they’d gotten wrong or completely missed, I’m not saying they definitely haven’t, but I’m interested to see what takes your rating down to almost 50%.
And the job application – Sad to see you can’t be positive about something these days, nor give something a positive review without it being seen as brown-nosing or having an alterior motive.
Again, I wish the guys who made this, the best of luck for their Australian product, and the greater community support that’s needed to get it there.

@john Grono
I know those mounts your talking about and they are terrible, I wouldn’t ride on a non flat surface with one of those, Besides if you watch the vid it has a lot more ability than just a bike mount.
@Lucas
Before you make comments like that actually investigate it a little first, I bet you didn’t watch the video because if you did you may appreciate the design that has gone into it. Clearly your just a 12 year old “Forum hero” who tries to make himself feel better about his miniscule life but putting others down.
With all that said they are currently nearly at 40k funded on kickstarter for this so they are laughing all the way to the bank what are you doing other than having a shallow opinion?!?
