Melburnians to watch AFL clash live
Sports fans in Melbourne will be able to watch Saturday’s crucial AFL game live after the league gave permission to Ten to show it.
The local derby Collingwood v Geelong Preliminary Final will see Ten’s coverage begin at 7pm in Melbourne.
David White, Network Ten’s General Manager of Sport said: “We are very pleased with this result and delighted to offer the fans what they wanted. This is a win for all AFL fans whether they are watching at the ground or at home.”
There have been ongoing tensions between Ten and the AFL over it being allowed live coverage, which the league fears can impact on ticket sales.
perhaps you guys could provide some insight as to why both games are scheduled to start at 8:30 in Sydney. Due to 7 and 10 having all finals rights it means it is impossible to view the game live in sydney. Absolutely unbelievable!

Yeah, what about us Sydney fans?!

Completely agree with Tomasz & Boskin! If the AFL want a second Sydney team then they have to show the finals LIVE in order to promote the game! The game on Saturday is live in regional NSW, which makes the decision even more odd for us devoted fans based in Sydney.

i just rang and complained to channel 10 and they said it is a ratings move. i made the suggestion of delaying the Grand final next week by an hour as well for ratings. if you are in sydney. I suggest calling 10 and complaining on 9650 1010. If enough of us do it. We will be able to make a point.

I am Collingwood member and Victorian and am in Brisbane for the weekend. I can not believe that Melbourne have it live at the scheduled 7-30 bounce of the ball and Brisbane start its telecast at 8-30. Pathetic for a supposely NATIONAL SPORT.
