Melissa Matheson named head of editorial at Pedestrian Group

Melissa Matheson has been named head of editorial at Pedestrian Group, covering Business Insider, Lifehacker, Gizmodo and Kotaku. Matheson replaces Jen Ryall who left to join Facebook as its strategic partnership manager in its Australian and New Zealand news partnerships team.

Matheson joins from Nova Entertainment’s GOAT where she was managing editor, a role she had held for just under two years.

Prior to her time with GOAT, Matheson was digital content director and contributions manager at Australian Radio Network (ARN) and a senior editor at SBS World News. Before that, Matheson spent nine years at News Corp in a number of roles, including as the editor of mX Sydney.

Ryall had been in the role at Pedestrian for just over a year and a half, joining from American broadcaster TEGNA after previously having spent four years with Mashable.

The Nine-owned publisher appointed Dentsu Aegis Network’s John-Paul MacCormick as its general manager, operations in January, responsible for revenue streams outside of the core partnership team, including e-commerce and programmatic advertising.

Pedestrian’s founders, Chris Wirasinha and Oscar Martin, left the business a year ago, with Nine appointing Matt Rowley as CEO for the publisher. Pedestrian Group includes the former Allure Media titles – Business Insider, Pop Sugar, Gizmodo, Kotaku and Lifehacker.
