Meshel Laurie back on commercial radio with Grant Broadcasters’ Wave FM

After spending the last three years away from commercial radio, experienced broadcaster, comedian and author Meshel Laurie is making a return to the airwaves.

She’ll be filling in on Grant Broadcasters-owned Wave FM in Wollongong, with Jade Tonta (née Papesch) of the breakfast show set to take maternity leave.

Laurie has hosted flagship shows with Nova and ARN

Laurie’s last gig was with Australian Radio Network’s Kiis 101.1 in Melbourne where she hosted drive with Matt Tilley. The pair were replaced in 2018 with Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw.

Prior to that, Laurie spent a decade at the Nova Network, in that time serving as a founding breakfast presenter on Nova 106.9 Brisbane.

She was also part of the Meshel, Tim and Marty drive show across the national Nova network, before hosting Meshel and Tommy on Nova 100 breakfast with Tommy Little.

Laurie made her official return to radio this morning alongside Wave FM breakfast co-hosts Adam Straney and Damien Leith.

She said she’s “thrilled” to get back on the air.

“Jade’s about to have a baby and I am not. I couldn’t be happier for both of us,” Laurie said.

“I’m also thrilled to be keeping her seat warm for the next couple of months. Talk about shaking off the 2020 blues.”

Wave FM content director, Dean Kesby, added: “There’s only one woman in Australian radio who could keep Damien and Straney’s mischief under control.”

Tonta said Laurie is the perfect person to fill in for her, saying: “I’m so excited to see Meshel Laurie make her radio comeback and couldn’t think of a better sub to pull off the bench and entertain the Illawarra each morning.”
