Metcash reappoints Starcom

Metcash, owner of brands including IGA, the Bottle-O and Campbell’s Wholesale, has re-appointed Starcom to handle its media planning and buying duties.

Starcom has been re-appointed by Metcash Trading Limited as its media agency partner following a closed competitive review.

The Adex billings estimate for Metcash for the past 12 months was $24 million. Metcash brands include IGA, SIGA, Cellarbrations, the Bottle-O and Campbell’s Wholesale.

Starcom will handle all communication planning and buying. It will continue to operate its successful national service model for Metcash that optimizes a centralised national strategy and negotiations with local implementation by teams across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Metcash General Manager Commercial, Merchandise & Procurement Anthony Abdallah said: “Starcom has delivered tremendous value to our business since its initial appointment, delivering on all of its commitments to our business. We are really pleased that we are extending our partnership with Starcom and are confident the agency will continue to add value to our business.”

Starcom Mediavest Group CEO John Sintras said: “We are delighted to be extending our partnership with Metcash. Our team has worked very hard since our original appointment in 2006 to implement a unique national service offering that has yielded significant benefits for the Metcash Group.”

The re-appointment is effective May 1st, 2010. The win comes hot on the heels of Starcom’s recent appointment to the Australian Government’s 2010 “Get Reading!” initiative.”
