Michael Pell replaces Adam Boland at Seven’s Sunrise helm
Seven has announced Michael Pell as the new executive producer of Sunrise, confirming the departure of its director of morning television Adam Boland.
The network said Pell, currently EP of sister shows Weekend Sunrise and The Morning Show, will take the helm in November.
Boland’s departure – although he will remain contracted to the network in a consultancy role – will be on a high. Earlier in the year, Nine’s Today closed the gap, but recent weeks saw Sunrise stretch its lead to some of the biggest margins in the last two years.
Boland said: “I feel really comfortable handing over a show I care so much about to someone as skilled as Michael. Sunrise is in very safe hands.”
Pell added: “Sunrise is one of TV’s best known brands and I’m honoured to be given the chance to lead it.”
Sunrise host Mel Doyle said of Boland: “He is passionate, inspiring and a television genius.”
Fellow host David Koch added: “Michael is not Adam. He brings his own unique set of skills, which will take Sunrise to the next level.”
Seven has not yet announced a successor EP for The Morning Show.
(Declaration of interest: Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes is an occasional unpaid contributor to both Sunrise and The Morning Show.)
