Mick Molloy makes triumphant return to Triple M to helm breakfast show with MG

A year after stepping back from his national drive show, Mick Molloy is returning to Triple M to host the Sydney breakfast radio show alongside Mark ‘MG’ Geyer.

Molloy’s return to Triple M is a much needed boost for the network in Sydney

Mick and MG in the Morning sees Molloy’s return to the airwaves alongside one of the current Sydney breakfast hosts, Geyer, with the show alongside Jess Eva and Pagey revealed yesterday to have been axed, a year after replacing Lawrence Mooney.

Newsreader Natarsha Belling will also join the show as newsreader, as the network said Molloy is “no better known than as part of Triple M’s DNA”, returning to “shake up Sydney Breakfast”.

He said: “I’m excited to be returning to my spiritual home at Triple M and look forward to getting amongst it, in the Sydney breakfast radio scene. After a year away from the radio waves I wanted a new challenge and Sydney is the perfect opportunity. I’m also looking forward to working with MG and swapping stories. And if this doesn’t work out, I’ll throw my hat in the ring at The Project. I hear there’s an opening.”

Geyer added: “I cannot wait to work with Micky, who I regard as radio royalty. One of us owns a pub, the other owns a gym. The ‘cross-over’ after work activities will be a hoot!”

The network will be hoping Molloy’s return brings ratings, with the latest GfK radio survey this montt seeing the breakfast team slump to a 3.7% share, a 1.2 point drop, falling just below its SCA Sydney stablemate, 2Day FM’s breakfast show which climbed to a 4.2% share.

Chief content officer at SCA, Dave Cameron said that Molloy has Triple M bloody running through his veins, and to bring him back to headline the station in Sydney “is a triumph”.

“He is truly one of Australia’s greatest radio performers and we know that his legendary style of radio comedy already resonates for Sydney listeners from his previous successful stint in Drive. Molloy and MG are an incredibly charismatic pairing who will wake up Sydney with Triple M’s unique irreverence and energy, and a show that won’t sound like anything else in Sydney.”

The show will begin on 16 January and will air on weekdays between 6-9am.

SCA also said that Jess Eva, current breakfast host will not be returning to the show, but will “stay in the Triple M family in 2023″.

“I am so very grateful to be able to call SCA my professional family and to also have the opportunity to continue to work with them. My world has just expanded, allowing me to follow my real passion of becoming a sex symbol,” she said.
