MKR sees off The Block debut and mashes MasterChef
The first three-way battle of the reality shows saw Seven’s My Kitchen Rules dominate, Nine’s debut of The Block: All Stars fail to reach 1m and Masterchef: The Professionals rate a woeful 627,000.
MKR rated 2.28 million capital city viewers according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM. It was the highest ever rating for the show apart from last year’s ten minute winner announcement.
Meanwhile, Seven’s strong evening saw US drama Revenge return with 1.498 million viewers, making it the second biggest show of the night behind MKR. However, the series debut was somewhat behind last year’s 2.067m debut.
The audience for MKR left little room for Nine’s The Block: All Stars which rated 959,00o despite heavy marketing from the network and hammering Ten’s MasterChef: The Professionals, which has seen its audience fall to around half of last month’s debut episodes.
The first episode of The Block this year was down 32% on the first episode in 2012, falling from 1.4m then to 959,000 viewers last night.
It was another terrible night for Ten, which only had one show in the top 20 and a share of just 9.9% – way behind ABC1 (14.1%), Nine (18.8%) and Seven (30.4%).
Ten’s pointed that it had six of the top 20 programs of the night in the 16 to 39-year-old demographic.
Gosh what a smorgasbord of Quality viewing. iView anyone?

So Ten did not have 14 of the top 20 programs of the night in the 16 – 39 year old demographic?

MKR dominated because everyone wanted to see the two spice girls spectacularly fail as they did. The block was really dull Scott Cam is just aaaaaaaaaahh and riding the bike at the start Ohhhhhhhhhhh.
As for Masterchef Pro it’s just got nothing ,Matt is getting too much exposure ,Marco is a waste of money and none of the chefs have personality and that’s why they are chefs and not front of house.
What I have heard on the grapevine is about really good reality show idea about finding a new Host for TV !

Channel Nine must have thought they struck gold with the Block A’stars. It was only popular last year as there was no competition. They need to think twice about having two series this year.MKR will take on all comers.Jac – I agree-Scott Cam is no host and what is with all the Mitre 10 products.Seems to be one whole Mitre 10 advertisement
