M&M’s partners with Melbourne International Comedy Festival

M&M’s has partnered with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for 2023, hosting a one-night-only special event with host Nazeem Hussain.

The announcement:

Confectionery favourite M&M’S® is proud to partner with the iconic Melbourne International Comedy Festival, bringing the best laugh-out-loud moments to comedy lovers every Monday throughout the Festival with M&M’S® Mondays.

From 29 March to 23 April 2023, Melbourne is lighting up the largest comedy festival in the southern hemisphere with M&M’S® serving up the finest laughs (and snacks) in town, and importantly ensure all Melburnians kick-start the week the right way on the newly named M&M’S® Mondays at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Laugh-lovers can also grab a group of their pals and head along to the M&M’S® Comedy Spotlight Night at the Festival Club, where they can enjoy a special event hosted by Nazeem Hussain. This one-off event on Monday 3 April features a line-up of diverse, emerging voices and shines a spotlight on the up-and-coming stars of the Australian comedy scene.

In 2022, M&M’S® conducted local research and found that just under 40% of Australians believe diverse individuals or minority groups are not adequately represented across social media channels. With an objective to change this perception and create a greater sense of belonging online, the brand created the Comedy Spotlight; an initiative that takes up-and-coming comedians and gives them a mainstream platform to grow their reach across the country.

As a brand that champions fun and inclusivity, M&M’S® turned its spotlight to comedy after the rise of ‘lounge room comedians’ throughout the pandemic, and Australians spending more and more time on their phones, with a recent study by reviews.org finding Aussies spend roughly 5.5 hours per day on their phones consuming content.

Building on the success of the first year of the Comedy Spotlight, where the initiative reached more than 6 million Australians, M&M’S® is proud to further support comedians on a mainstream platform in one of the world’s largest comedy festivals.

Mars Wrigley Australia’s marketing director, Ben Hill, said it was an honour to be bringing the laughs to Melburnians and beyond in a way that plays into the M&M’S® purpose.

“M&M’S® has always been a brand that is all about having fun together. We’re incredibly proud to be bringing Melburnians together under the guise of having a laugh, throughout our partnership with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival,” Hill said.

“Last year we reached more than 6 million Australians through our Comedy Spotlight, and it’s wonderful to be taking the Comedy Spotlight to a whole new level with a presence at a world-renowned comedy festival such as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Having fun together is at the core of everything we do at M&M’S® and we’re thrilled to be working with the Festival to deliver more laughs and more moments of connection throughout this year’s festival.”

Damien Hodgkinson, executive director, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, said: “After first working with the M&M’S® team back in 2020 to bring some fun into the homes of comedy lovers with our online series ‘Are You Gameshow?’, we are thrilled to continue our partnership into the live event space! Audiences are sure to find a new favourite comedian at the M&M’S® Comedy Spotlight Night, and we look forward to sharing a laugh with all of Melbourne on an M&M’S® Monday – the best way to start the working week.”
