Modern Family holds share, Nine wins the night, while Survivor limps to the finale
Ten’s new US comedy Modern Family last night held its ratings share after the airing of its second episode, while Nine narrowly won the night with solid results for Top Gear, its evening news and a repeat of Two and a Half Men.
However, Nine’s double episode of Survivor, which included the finale of the show, failed to make the top ten in overall free-to-air TV viewing.
Modern Family was the third most-watched show for the night with 1.548m tuning in – little change from Tuesday’s ratings.
But it was pushed from the number one spot it held last week by Masterchef and Seven News in second.
And among the major cities, while Modern Family was number one in Sydney last week, last night it dropped to fifth, with Seven News taking over the number one spot, according to preliminary overnight OzTam data.
In the other markets, Ten’s NCIS led in Brisbane and Adelaide, Seven News in Perth and Masterchef in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Nine’s Survivor: Heroes vs Villains Finale at 8:40pm attracted just over one million – which was slightly higher than its rating last Tuesday in the 7:30pm time slot. The 10:40pm Reunion episode managed 873,000 average viewers. The two episodes did still manage to score in the top ten among 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s.
Leading in those three demographics, Masterchef and Modern Family were the first and second shows respectively.
In terms of overall FTA TV viewing, Nine came first with a 26.7 per cent share, followed by Seven with 26.1 per cent and then Ten with 24.4 per cent.

An average of just over a million for a program that went for about 3 hours is actually a pretty impressive effort by Survivor.
Can’t believe Sandra won!
