Modern Family the first Ten show to topple Masterchef from number one spot
Masterchef last night was for the first time this series pushed from the most-watched spot by another Ten program, with the network’s new US comedy the Modern Family premiering with an average audience of 1.55m.
Ten also took out the top three spots in total audiences, with US crime show NCIS coming in third.
The strong performance saw Ten come in second in overall ratings, behind Seven and ahead of Nine.
Modern Family led viewing among 16-39s 18-49s and 25-54s, followed by Masterchef, according to preliminary overnight OzTam data in the main metro markets.
However, the cooking show rated higher among overall Melbourne and Adelaide viewers.
Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent dropped slightly to 1.4m and was down from last week’s season high, 1.509m.
Nine’s Top Gear also saw a slight fall to 1.102m, which was down from last week’s 1.279m.

It wasn’t bad. Some genuinely funny moments, but also several ‘by the numbers’ jokes. A touch predictable and a bit laboured in parts, but still, better than that woeful 2.5 men. I’ll give it another go.

Dumb show..the “funniest” (and I’m using that term loosely) bits were shown in the ad promos…also it ran over by at least 10mins which mucked up my IQ taping of NCIS!

All I said was, I bet you ten grand we see a second series. It’s the kind of show “people” like to watch. It’s different and fresh. I never said it was good. I can’t explain this show’s popularity any more than I can explain the popularity of Two and a Half Men. Even the show’s creator’s can’t explain why Modern Family works. It just does.
