Monique Macleod appointed to CommBank acting CMO

Commonwealth Bank ‘s group marketing and strategy exec Monique Macleod has been appointed acting CMO until the end of the calendar year.

CMO duties had previously been held by Vittoria Shortt, who was appointed to the Commonwealth Bank’s executive committee in 2015 and will continue in the role of group executive, marketing and strategy.

Macleod has worked for CommBank since 2008, and was previously held general manager, brand and sponsorship.

Before CommBank, Macleod was client services director at McCann Erickson, a position she held for seven years. She has also worked for DDB and Ogilvy and Mather.

Her predecessor Shortt oversaw much of the bank’s push into digital marketing with a focus technological innovations like the Property Guide and mobile payment app Kaching.  She joined CommBank in 2002 and was promoted to chief marketing officer in May 2013, following the departure of Andy Lark.

In a statement to Mumbrella, Shortt said: “Monique Macleod has been appointed acting chief marketing officer, Commonwealth Bank Group, until the end of this calendar year. In this role, Monique will bring her strengths as a values-led leader, focussing on deep customer insights and creativity to engage our customers in their financial wellbeing.

“This leadership appointment recognises the great customer outcomes Monique has achieved at the CBA Group over the past six years. A decision about the CMO role will be made in early 2018.”
