‘More than just a logo on a jersey’: Sydney Roosters sign historic $10m sponsorship deal

The Sydney Roosters have signed what is rumoured to be a $10 million sponsorship deal with a Chinese electric car manufacturer.

The NRL club announced on Tuesday morning that BYD will become the Roosters’ new major partner until the end of 2029.

The partnership will see BYD signage feature prominently across the front of both home and away jerseys for the NRL and NRLW teams, as well as relevant club apparel.

Sydney Roosters chairman, Nick Politis, said: “We are excited to embark on this journey with BYD as our new Major Partner. ‘A New Energy’ captures the Roosters’ dynamic spirit and aligns with BYD’s vision for a sustainable future. This partnership is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and excellence, and we look forward to building on that together over the next five years.”

No monetary figure was released by either BYD, the NRL, or the Sydney Roosters, but the Daily Telegraph reports the deal could be worth $10 million.

Wing You, GM of BYD Australia & New Zealand said: “Both BYD and the Sydney Roosters are iconic brands in their respective fields—one representing the forefront of sustainable mobility and the other a proud symbol of excellence in Australian rugby league.”

“This sponsorship is more than just a logo on a jersey; it’s a true alignment of shared values, vision, and a commitment to creating a better future.”
