Movie Extra Webfest 2.0 launches today

The Movie Network Channels and their Movie Extra Webfest launches today for a second year.

With a $50,000 production budget up for the winning entry, Movie Extra Webfest 2.0 will see one idea turned into a seven episode series, to be broadcast on YouTube and the Movie Extra website.

Entrants must produce and upload an original 60 second trailer to the Movie Extra Webfest facebook page. Facebook fans can then vote for their favourite trailer. The winning entrant will be decided on by a combination of both facebook votes and the judges’ criteria. Judges will assess each work not only on creativity but the performance of the trailer in an online environment.

Last year’s winning series, Henry & Aaron’s 7 Steps to Superstardom premiered on the Movie Extra’s YouTube channel in June.

In a statement, Peter Jenetsky, General Manager of Content Strategy & Marketing for MNC said, “We are now entering a decade of ‘platform polygamy’ where consumers are readily engaging with internet and mobile video platforms as well as social networks to seek, discover, and engage with content and brands. It is therefore vital to our continuing product development strategies to embrace and explore new platforms and relevant content creation opportunities. Movie Extra Webfest 2.0 is a unique digital and creative content programme. It provides aspiring producers a fantastic opportunity to not only receive funding for their projects, but to also build and hone skills in production and digital media.”
