MTV hires Fairfax marketer Simon Bates

MTV has hired Fairfax marketer Simon Bates to head up marketing for its MTV music and Comedy Central brands.

Bates joins after a four-year stint at Fairfax to replace Tina McIntosh, who moved to MTV’s sister channel Nickelodeon earlier this year.

Bates’ new role at MTV is director of marketing, communications and commercial partnerships, with a brief to manage marketing and commercial partnerships for MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Classic and Comedy Central in Australia and New Zealand.

Bates has had two stints at Fairfax. First, as the marketing manager of The Sun-Herald. Then after a stint at the BBC, he was consumer marketing director for The Sydney Morning Herald. Most recently he was commercial director for Food & Wine.

His career also includes spells at News Corp’s BSkyB and WPP’s Clever Media.
