Mumbrellacast: Dialing in from the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity

On this week's Mumbrellacast, host Calum Jaspan is in Cannes, and we hear from a range of industry figures about the event. Featured are Dentsu's Fred Levron and Kirsty Muddle, TikTok's Brett Armstrong, Snap's Kathryn Carter, Reddit's Roxy Young, Yahoo's Paul Sigaloff and Rachel Page, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Volodymyr Zelensky.

It’s a bit of a different format for Mumbrellacast this week, as Calum Jaspan brings you an on-the-ground snapshot of this year’s Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity (apologies for some sketchy audio in parts).

Today you’ll hear from Dentsu, TikTok, Snap, Reddit, Yahoo, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Kicking off, the week started with Dentsu’s global CCO Fred Levron unveiling Dentsu Creative on stage.

Mumbrellacast caught up with Levron and CEO Dentsu Creative, ANZ, and Kirsty Muddle to ask them how they brought it together and took it to market.

Then, during a session titled, ‘Creativity Under Bombs’, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered an address to a packed auditorium and Mumbrella was there to capture it.

“Your campaigns and your work will make our fight for freedom legendary,” Zelensky said. “because we are fighting not only for our freedom but for the entire democratic world.”

Calum later talks with GM for TikTok Australia’s Brett Armstrong about what the rocket ship app is up to while at the Cannes festival. Armstrong is blown away by all the communities on the platform, with the theme this year being, “This Is Your Moment”.

Gary Vee and his panel session with Paris Hilton was a fascinating exploration of NFTs and why now might be the time for marketers to invest in the new Web3 technology.

Kathryn Carter, GM, APAC at Snap Inc. discusses the platform’s AR activation – a collab between Snap, British Vogue and designers – so people at Cannes have the opportunity see outfits come to life, as well as demonstrate and stretch the capabilities of augmented reality.

Paul Sigaloff and Rachel Page were met at Yahoo Beach in Cannes to talk about how the platform has repositioned itself to be at the cutting edge of Web3.

Reddit CMO’s Roxy Young then chats to Calum from the Explorer Club about what its platform can offer marketers and how it is shifting the dial.
