Mumbrellacast: George Calombaris and the whole damn thing, plus Mark Humphries on what went wrong with Pointless
It was a big week in TV and the Mumbrella team takes time out during the Finance Marketing Summit to talk it all through. George Calombaris was caught out yet again for underpaying his staff. Ten decided to stand by him, but then he, Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston decided not to stand by Ten without a pay rise. The team discusses the irony of the situation and if Masterchef is about to become the new Top Gear.
Plus, Hannah Blackiston sits down with former Pointless host Mark Humphries to discuss what went wrong with Ten’s version of the beloved British game show, what will work in the 6pm slot instead, and how his “whole business model is replacing Grant Denyer”.
Also in this week’s Mumbrellacast, Seven is a year out from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and the team explained how the network plans on tackling the behemoth of sports broadcasting and the massive channel shares it is expecting.
And Foxtel announced it is ‘revolutionising’ the way people will watch TV, but will is actually make a difference? Is it a revolution? Tune in to find out!

Thanks for the interview with Mark Humphries – I was really upset when Pointless was axed. I thought it was an awesome show and was never given a chance.

Australian pointless tanked because the whole show is British – understated, intelligent and compelling.
Sorry but our version was “pointless”, the contestants didn’t have the knowledge or range of knowledge required and (really sorry) the presenters were just wet. Oh; and advertising (yuk). I gave up and returned to the real deal

One of the best entertaining game shows to date.Mark is a wonderful host with quick off the cuff ( also impeccably dressed he & the “ Doc”) one liners. The repor between mark & Andrew electrifying !!!! The contestants also adding to the entertainment factor. I make sure the tv is not on10 at that time slot anymore.
That would be “Pointless “
