Mumbrella’s Abigail Dawson joins Special Group as brand director

Mumbrella’s former senior content journalist, Abigail Dawson, has joined independent creative agency Special Group in the newly-created role of brand director.

Dawson will be responsible for shaping the agency’s narrative, and overseeing its business development and PR strategy. She will work alongside Special Group’s senior leadership team and report directly to chief executive Lindsey Evans.

Dawson joins the agency after four years with Mumbrella

“Despite the rollercoaster challenges of COVID-19 we are incredibly fortunate to be in a position to invest in our own brand’s development,” Evans said of the hire.

“We are thrilled to welcome Abigail to the Special Group family. She brings deep industry knowledge and fierce passion and we can’t wait to see that manifest at Special Group.”

Dawson spent a year and a half as a senior content journalist at Mumbrella, curating content across events including Mumbrella360, CommsCon, and the business’ various summits. She started out in the news team, joining in 2016 as a reporter and working her way up to the position of senior reporter, covering the agencies and advertising space.

“I am incredibly grateful to the team at Mumbrella. The growth and development I have made over the last four years will stay with me forever, but now feels like the right time to follow my passion for advertising and explore new opportunities,” Dawson said of her next career move.

“Special Group is an incredibly unique agency with a formidable culture and enviable client base. I couldn’t be more excited to join such a dynamic agency at an exciting time in their growth and development.”

Last week, Special Group was shortlisted for eight Mumbrella Awards, including Creative Agency of the Year. Earlier in the month, Mumbrella also revealed that the agency is pitching for the Bonds account, up against incumbent Leo Burnett Melbourne, and TBWA Melbourne and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.
