Can ten take some relief in the fact that MKR is a rip off from MasterChef? If you copy more than 10% of a book it is copyright infringement. MKR is at least 70% ripped off from MasterChef.
Judge takes a bite of food – shows no facial expression – music is tense – judge criticises food – music is downbeat – close up on contestants face – then judge says “But the sauce is the best I have ever had” – uplifting music.
About the only thing original in MKR is the Aussie judge’s fake blue eyes.

I love the mind numbingly inane and pointless cut aways for contestant reactions. Gripping.

I think you’ll find, nickatnight, that MasterChef was not the first with the “judge follows critism with praise, accompanies by pregnant pauses and emotional music”. I’m fairly certain it’s been used in EVERY SINGLE REALITY TV SHOW EVER. In fact, Aristotle’s class “Poetics” features a little known third book called “Reality TV Cliches” that describes it in detail.

Tom – I realise that praising a contestant is not breakthrough stuff in the reality TV genre. But let’s be honest – MKR has stolen the whole “vibe” from MasterChef. No doubt that is why it rates. MKR is a succesful immitator not an innovator.
And what is it with those fake blue eyes? Does he see everything in blue as well?

who cares if it’s ripped off or not….some 1.3-1.4m people are watching it everytime it’s on TV.
probably says as much about the stellar effort 9 and 10 are doing at the moment with their schedules. Therefore these stations probably deserve to be smashed in the ratings by providing such dribble like Ben Elton two weeks in a row.
