Natasha Exelby returns to Ten

After a recent stint in the jungle on Ten’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, newsreader Natasha Exelby is returning to a news role at Ten, joining the team on Ten News First Melbourne.

Exelby, who despite her 15-year career as a journalist is still perhaps best known for being caught on air unaware on the ABC, previously worked for the network as a morning anchor on the ill-fated breakfast program Wake Up.

Over her career, Exelby has worked in regional Queensland, as a political correspondent in Parliament House and in war zones in both Syria and Afghanistan. She was broadcasting live during the Belgium attacks, led the outside broadcast for the Bastille Day truck attack in Nice, and was on air during the 2016 attempted-coup in Turkey.

She worked with Ten from 2008 to 2013 on Ten News Canberra and Sydney before joining Wake Up.

Most recently, she was in the jungle for I’m A Celebrity, where she opened up about her life after she was dumped from Wake Up just 16 days into the show’s run.

Speaking to the other I’m A Celebrity campers, Exelby said she was told by executive producer Adam Boland that she was being axed 45 minutes before it was publicly announced.

“The ratings were terrible, I don’t think I was particularly glowing, so 16 days into it something had to give and that was me,” Exelby said.

Exelby was the eighth person to be eliminated from the jungle contest.

In her new role with Ten, Exelby will work across the network’s news programs and platforms, reporting in to network director of news content, Ross Dagan, and Melbourne executive editor, Mark Gillies.

Gillies said Exelby will be a great addition to the news team.

“Natasha will be a fantastic addition to the Ten News First team. She’s an experienced journalist, with a personality and character that makes her a perfect fit for the Melbourne newsroom,” said Gillies.

Exelby said: “The network is stacked with super talented humans and I feel very lucky to be back in the mix. I’m looking forward to working with old friends and making new ones.”

Natasha Exelby will return to Ten from early July.
