Nationwide News promotes Cherie Nicholl
Cherie Nicholl has been promoted to the role of Partnership Director at Nationwide News.
The announcement:
Nationwide News Managing Director Michael Miller announced today the appointment of Cherie Nicholl to the newly-created position of partnerships director.
In her new role Ms Nicholl, currently acting marketing director for Nationwide News and The Australian, will develop and manage key external partnerships for The Daily and Sunday Telegraphs.
“Integrated partnerships with our companies, sporting bodies, major events and other organisations are central to the way we see our industry developing and growing,” said Mr Miller.
“Our plan is to take traditional sponsorships to a new level which delivers much more for both parties in terms of audience, revenue and recognition,” he said.
“I’m delighted that someone with Cherie’s experience across Nationwide News has agreed to step up to this challenge. Our new partnerships strategy is a major business commitment and will involve all departments from editorial and creative, to advertising, circulation and marketing.”
Ms Nicholl’s new role encompasses the associated business and sub-brands of The Daily and Sunday Telegraphs, including mX, The Sportsman, NWN Enterprises, the League Central app, Body & Soul and new digital businesses.
After starting her career as an account manager in 1992, Ms Nicholl worked at several marketing and advertising agencies before joining ACP as marketing manager for Woman’s Day magazine in 2001.
Ms Nicholl joined Nationwide News as marketing director, a maternity leave position, three years ago and quickly established key masthead sponsorships with The Sydney Festival, Taronga Zoo and the Sydney Swans.
Later rising to deputy marketing and circulation director, she identified and negotiated a partnership sales opportunity with McDonald’s – an initiative that has now been rolled out nationally.
“My new role is to ensure our brands leverage all parts of our business and our sponsorships,” said Ms Nicholl. “This is the pointy end of the media right now and, for me, definitely the most exciting place to be. I’m thrilled.” Ms Nicholl’s appointment is effective from July 19.
