NBN chief executive Mike Quigley gives ASTRA keynote address

Mike Quigley, Chief Executive of NBN Co, takes a timely look at the impact of a National Broadband Network in a dynamic and constantly changing media landscape
Sydney – 17 January 2012: Mike Quigley, NBN Co Chief Executive has been confirmed as the Innovation Keynote speaker at the ASTRA 2012 Conference, to be held on 22nd March at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre, by The Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA).With the board of NBN Co, Michael Quigley has overall responsibility for fulfilling the Government’s policy goal of building and operating a ubiquitous, high-speed broadband network across Australia to enable the future of online services and telecommunications. He leads the team planning, designing and constructing the National Broadband Network (NBN). Quigley’s career spans thirty-six years with former roles at Alcatel, the French telecommunications giant, where in 2005, he was appointed Alcatel’s President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing 55,000 staff and operations in 130 countries.
The NBN will be Australia’s first national, wholesale-only, open access broadband network offering non-discriminatory terms and conditions to all access seekers. The NBN will make high-speed broadband available to all Australian homes, schools and businesses, 93 per cent via fibre optic network. As broadband internet becomes more integrated in daily Australian life, future trends are likely to see an exponential increase in data demands and an increasing number of networked devices and social media usage. Extensive availability of high-speed broadband via the NBN will itself be a catalyst for innovation and the development of new applications that rely on higher speeds, capacity and reliability.
Mike Quigley will deliver the Innovation Keynote address and provide insight into the implications of the NBN for subscription TV (STV) and content producers in a dynamic and constantly changing media environment.
Mr Quigley said: “The NBN will enable innovation and competition by the use of broadband to deliver IPTV, making it possible for service providers to deliver a wide range of content and inter-active services through the multicast feature we are currently developing for use on the network.”

The 2012 day-long Conference program will highlight opinions from leaders across the industry, allow for discussion and debate through a combination of panel discussions and break-out sessions and provide networking opportunities at the Women in Television breakfast, lunch and the closing cocktail function.
