Networking group Motiv set up for young professionals in media companies

A new networking group has been created to encourage young people working in media agencies to come together and extend their range of contacts.

The release:

Motiv is a professional networking initiative aimed at attracting the most driven young media minds in Australia to create a strong network of professionals who are motivated to grow together, inspire each other and work on the next big ideas for the screen.

Launching with its first event on October 29, 2015, Motiv is led by a board and an advisory board whose members come together from some of Australia’s leading television, production, advertising and online companies. Motiv aims to create a culture that brings the industry’s next generation under one roof, people who are interested in future-proofing their careers by connecting to the right people, at the right time.

Recognising the need for a connected network to be established, board member Yeesum Lo, Corporate Project Manager at Endemol Shine Australia, said “We are a group of people who live, work and breathe media, and collectively identified the need for a unique forum where like-minded people can meet and interact across different areas of the industry and between a diverse spectrum of companies. We are also very grateful for the support of an incredible advisory board that fully represents diversity as well”.

Motiv will hold bi-annual networking events, and more casual get-togethers throughout the year, bringing young media executives and producers together, giving them an opportunity to connect in a meaningful way.

“Motiv is focused on developing useful relationships in our day-to-day work roles; to compare to the world of social media that I live in, this is a real-life LinkedIn with connections that matter”, said Calleb Macleod, board member and Network Social Media Manager, Nine Network.

Motiv also aims to build an effective and systematic mentorship program, connecting young executives and producers to more established professionals; along with outreach programs for students who are looking into a career in entertainment.

“Mentorship is crucial in the media industry and I have been lucky enough to have had the support of some remarkable mentors throughout this early stage of my career. Motiv is a fantastic opportunity to foster rich mentoring relationships, as well as to pass knowledge on to those who are looking for a start in this community”, said Daniel Monaghan, board member and Programming Manager, Network Ten.

As a not-for-profit professional organisation, Motiv will actively give back through volunteer opportunities with local charity partners, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork amongst people who may not otherwise connect outside of a professional environment.
