New dates for the AWARD Awards and judging announced
Industry body Australasian Writers and Art Directors (AWARD) has announced the new dates for its awards judging and presentation.
The virtual judging round will now take place between 25 May and 5 June, with the grand award judging occurring on 9 June. The winners will be announced on 12 June.
The gala dinner, where the AWARD Award winners are traditionally announced, was initially set to take place on 27 March with judging to occur two days prior. In mid-March its was announced the event was cancelled, and plans for judging to go ahead virtually were postponed so members of the jury could focus on themselves during the “rapid deterioration” of the crisis.
AWARD chair Cam Blackley said he was glad to have the awards back on track.
“When we entered lockdown it was the right thing to do to postpone for a few reasons. Given the lay of the land we think it’s important to move ahead with confirmed dates for the judging and announcing of this year’s AWARD Awards winners,” Blackley said.
“While we knew we were making the right decision last month to temporarily put AWARD Awards on hold because of Coronavirus, that didn’t make it easier.”
“So being able to say we’re now back on track is very good news for all the finalists, judges and the AWARD Community.
“We’re still gutted we can’t hold an Awards ceremony, especially given the amazing plans we had for this year, but we’ll be announcing our alternative approach in coming weeks,” he added.
Finalists for the AWARD Awards were announced at the start of March.
The AWARD Creative Festival and accompanying events have also been postponed, with plans for them to occur at the end of the year, depending on developments in the COVID-19 crisis.
