New series of Big Bang a hit for Nine on Monday

The new series of The Big Bang Theory was a hit for Nine last night with both episodes fetching more than 1.5 million and ranking as the top two most-watched for the night.

The 7:30 episode received an audience of 1.505 million followed by another new episode at 8pm with 1.606 million, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.

A repeat episode at 7pm received 1.122 million.

According to a survey by Roy Morgan last month, The Big Bang Theory is Australia’s most-loved show.

The success of the new season lead Nine to a win for the night with a 24.4% share. Ten came fourth behind Seven (23.7%) and ABC1 (13.8%).

Seven’s 90-minute episode of The X Factor at 7:30 was third most-watched for the night with 1.31 million. It was the most-watched show in Adelaide for Monday.

At 8:30 The Mentalist regained a bit of ground with 1.136 million following its quiet series return last week of 1.07 million.

At breakfast, Nine’s Today failed to get on top of Sunrise despite its highly promoted week of shows live from New York kicking off yesterday.  It received 339,000 behind the Seven show’s 402,000.
