Seven News, ABC and sport win Saturday night

Seven had a comfortable win in the Saturday night TV ratings helped by the strong performance of the evening news and the AFL in Melbourne and Adelaide. The ABC however managed to take four of the top ten programs for the evening.

Across the five metro markets, Seven took 22.1% of the audience and Nine 16.2% for the evening. The ABC attracted 13.9% of viewers while Ten narrowly beat SBS with a 6.0% share over the multicultural broadcaster’s 5.1%.

Of the news programs, Seven attracted 775,000 viewers followed by Nine and ABC News with 745,000 and 692,000 respectively, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

The ABC’s line up of Saturday night British shows gave it the fourth and fifth spots with Father Brown and Last Tango in Halifax, while Seven’s AFL coverage in Melbourne and Adelaide attracted 420,000 viewers over Nine’s NRL in Sydney and Brisbane which was watched by 320,000, putting the Rugby League behind Gardening Australia’s 394,000.

Overall, the combined network totals, including multi-channel offerings, in the five metro markets were 33.4% for Seven, 28.3% for Nine, 19.8% for the ABC, 11.3% for Ten and 7.2% for SBS.
