News Corp Australia appoints Uber’s Michelle Wood as head of executive comms

Following the departure of longtime comms boss Liz Deegan in August 2019, News Corp Australia has appointed Michelle Wood as its new head of executive communications.

Deegan was general manager of corporate affairs and relationships when she exited the business to join the National Rugby League (NRL) as chief corporate affairs officer.

Wood spent 1.5 years as Uber’s comms boss for ANZ

Wood joins from Uber where she was director of comms in Australia and New Zealand. She will report to Campbell Reid, News Corp’s group executive of corporate affairs, policy and government.

She joined Uber in 2018, leaving a role as general manager of marketing and communications at the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She replaced Cara Mygind who left Uber after just four months in the comms role.

Throughout her career Wood has also worked at the Australian Trade Commission, Momentum2 and Sydney Water.

News Corp Australia is reporting the replacement is not a like-for-like with Deegan, due to the publisher moving to a flatter structure of specialists.

Mumbrella has approached News Corp Australia for a comment.
