News Corp bundles The Australian with Times London and WSJ

News Corp is bundling three of its biggest mastheads under one digital subscription, with The Australian, The Wall Street Journal and The Times of London now available as a package deal.

The bundle will cost around $12 a week ($48 every four weeks), with an introductory offer that halves the cost for the first three months.

A digital subscription to The Australian previously also included complementary access to the Wall Street Journal. A 12-month contract to this tier currently costs $32 every four weeks, effectively pricing The Times of London subscriptions at $16 a month extra. No doubt, News Corp will soon sunset this ‘complementary access’ to the WSJ.

News Corp’s media release promises “the ability to access unparalleled insights from the three leading publications, each with a unique perspective on both local and global events”.

This comes after Ipsos iris measurement data reported a 45% leap in The Australian’s online readership for the month of August, driven by third-party aggregators like Apple News and Google News pushing would-be readers to the paywalled site. It was the first time the site has reached more than 5 million readers in a single month.

This bundle also comes as the paper sections off its financial news into a ‘Wealth’ vertical, aligning it more closely to the Wall Street Journal.

The Australian’s MD and publisher Nicholas Gray said in the release the new digital bundle “allows readers to get the vantage points of three of the biggest and best English-speaking newspapers in the world, in one bundle.

“By leveraging our global network, we’re pleased to offer great value to readers with access to the world’s best journalism in this powerful package. It’s more perspective, more expertise, and more of the news readers can use.”
